- Description
NEW STARTS – LEVEL 1 of 3 – Our structured Balance Buddies programme welcomes children as young as 3 years old, helping them build confidence and progress from balancing to pedalling.
The sessions are filled with fun games and activities, from learning balance techniques to cycling around set-out routes and tracks. Children will develop their balance, coordination and spatial awareness while learning the basics of riding safely. It’s all about gaining confidence and having fun!
During the first session, the instructor will carry out an initial assessment to understand your child’s current ability and identify any support they may need. Every child learns at their own pace, and our instructors will support them as they progress from using a bike without pedals towards independent cycling.
We use Squish bikes because their lightweight frames and child-friendly design make them easier for little riders to handle, helping them build confidence as they learn. We also sell Squish bikes at our Cycle Station shop in Darvel, where our team can help you find the right size for your child. Our on-site workshop offers bike servicing and repairs to help keep the whole family cycling.
This is a block of 5 sessions at 11AM at Loudoun Leisure Centre on Saturday 24th October, 31st October, 7th November, 14th November and 21st November.
We supply all bikes and helmets, although you’re welcome to bring your child’s own helmet if you prefer. Please arrive a few minutes before the session starts. Children should wear comfortable clothing suitable for physical activity and trainers or other secure, closed-toe shoes. Please avoid baggy trousers, flip flops and Crocs.
At one given time we have approx 70+ people on our waitlist, please do not hesitate to book to avoid disappointment.**
Balance Buddies is a gateway to the wider range of cycling activities offered by Cycle Station. As your child’s skills and confidence grow, they can look forward to family rides, mountain biking at Whitelee, trips to Glentress and our very own CycleTrax, due to open in spring 2027.
Keep the fun going at home with Project Pedal, Cycle Station’s kids’ bike subscription! Give your child a bike that fits them now, with the option to swap as they grow. It’s an affordable way to practise their Balance Buddies skills and enjoy more family cycling adventures. Find out more about our subscription bikes - Project Pedal ⋆ Cycle Station
